The easiest way I can see this being done is it being the sole achievement that you are going for. However, soldiers not seeing you decreases the chances of them setting off alarms. The Ghost bonus does not count towards Foxiest of the Hounds. There is also the ghost bonus which is given by having not a single enemy seeing you. You will know that you have not tripped an alarm by receiving the smooth operator bonus at the end of each section it is possible for. Now to what will most likely be a lengthy solution!įoxiest of the Hounds is obtained by not tripping an alarm the entire way through Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I am not worried about the votes whatsoever I just hope this helps with anyone attempting Foxiest of the Hounds. I am not claiming whole credit of this solution as most of this information is from a variety of sources, a list too long to write down. As I have had many conversations about the game, I figured I would compile as much information about this achievement to give myself and anyone reading this a better shot at obtaining it. I attempted it on my first playthrough of the game and somewhere among the hours I made a boo boo. He backs away and shoots it to blow the door, enters the room, kills the coroner without a word and retrieves the neural implant from the body on the autopsy table.First off let me state that as of the time I am writing this I have not yet gained the achievement. He loads up the inventory and drags a frag grenade onto a "mine template", giving him a frag mine to attach to the door. Moving into a nearby corridor, Jensen switches to a non-lethal energy weapon, which sends enemies flying but leaves them alive.īy now we're at the door to the morgue, and it's locked, but Jensen has an app for that. There are quite a few of them so the developer controlling him dips into a menu and attaches an explosive-bullet modification for his gun (other mods can be found or bought), which sends victims flying and ragdolling all over the furniture. He spots a gap and jumps the railing, landing in cover. He leans out of cover and shoots reinforcements, dives between cover points, then climbs some stairs and uses iron sights to shoot the cop waiting for him on the landing, which overlooks an open-plan office area where more cops are gathered.Īt this point Jensen goes into X-ray vision to see where they all are, their glowing bodies clearly silhouetted against the darkened geometry of his surroundings. He picks up a photocopier (he's got a strength augmentation) and repositions to act as cover, allowing him to safely dispatch two more cops rushing in from an adjacent room. The cop pulls a gun, and in a flash Jensen does something clever to disarm and drop him to the ground, before spinning round to shoot the next cop to react. He ignores his warning and goes on through, at which point it all kicks off. Or rather knew.Įntering the police station, Jensen heads straight past the front desk and is confronted by a cop who says the area beyond is restricted. Anti-augmentation terrorists have attacked one of Sarif's manufacturing plants and Jensen's boss believes the guy in the morgue was a mole in their organisation, so he wants to find out what he knows. We pick him up around 90 minutes into the game. By now you should be familiar with them and the general vibe in 2027, when the game is set. Jensen is a private security man for augmentation specialist Sarif Industries. We're going to see it three times in a row. So does Eidos Montreal, and judging by Deus Ex: Human Revolution's display at gamescom this week, it is following in popular footsteps with confidence and intelligence.Ĭonscious that some people on the internet are not yet convinced that the game is upholding the first Deus Ex's values, the developers have chosen to show us a level in which protagonist Adam Jensen busts into a Detroit police station and retrieves a neural implant from a corpse in the morgue downstairs. We like choice and consequence - or at least convincing illusions of choice and consequence. Surely if BioShock taught us anything it's that we're happiest when we're doing what we're told? These days you can't go more than five steps without having to decide where the next five steps will take you. Individuals we came across were shot in the face. Who died and made non-linearity king? It used to be that you went left to right and that was it. Your humans are your resource so you’re required to manage them carefully and efficiently to succeed.Īnnoyingly, giving humans recuperation time removes their ability to work, reducing your productivity and potentially endangering your power output. If you don’t stop them working in time, they implode out of existence from exhaustion. Typically of pathetic organics, humans can only work within the limits of their energy. Each upgrade requires an increasing amount of power. This is where the strategy of the game comes to the fore. The breeding ground animations were immaturely hilarious and depicted… well, acts you certainly wouldn’t describe in the birds and the bees talk.Įach facility can and will need to be upgraded to increase their output and capacity for further enslaved souls. Lastly, you have the breeding ground, which includes quite a graphic depiction of a collection of pink pixels doing what needs to be done for humanity. The human storage area is effectively a flask which houses your newly-bred or resting humans, allowing them to recover stamina. The food production facility provides sustenance for your slaves, how unfortunate they need food at all. The hamster wheel generates power, the aforementioned essential resource. You start with a handful of human servants, whom you happily put to work to serve your needs. Of course, being the ultimate dictator AI you obviously are, you can’t be doing any of the hard graft yourself. Each cycle demands a certain amount of power to sustain your evil despot ass and an allocation of food to keep your fleshy slaves working. For each day, there are 5 cycles that occur every 20 seconds. If you run out of power, your primary resource, you lose and have to begin your campaign of dominating humans again.Įach run starts on day 1, with the ultimate objective to reach day 25 (30+ on the 2nd campaign). Despotism channels a lot of ideas from the rogue-like genre, with intense, challenging gameplay and little room for error. Each run you attempt has no checkpoints or saves. There are two campaigns, the second of which is locked initially until you complete the first. It was a sad end to a despot that had so much maniacal potential. Sadly though, this idea consistently maddened me, destroyed my most productive runs and in the end turned me off the game completely. The idea was clearly to add variety to its singular mode offering. Which made it all the more disappointing that Despotism 3k relies so heavily on RNG and randomly generated events that can ruin your campaign run in an instant. Despotism’s humour also elevates its moment-to-moment gameplay with that kind of “WTF” hilarity that has you wanting to see what other humorous text dialogue it has up its mechanical sleeve. It’s core concept of managing weak and energy-limited humans is enjoyable and tense in full-flow. Despotism 3k is a 2D resource management game with a strong emphasis on managing increasingly competing demands with limited resources (read: puny humans). This standard switch has two wires that carry power (line and load) and one copper ground wire. If there are no screw terminals on your switch, there may be four push-in connectors on the back of the switch housing, two of which should be labeled "input" and two of which should be labeled "output." This wiring scenario is complex and HS210 has not been tested to work with this configuration.įour-way switches often have four screw terminals on the housing, two of which will be labeled "input" and two of which will be labeled "output." There may also be a separate green ground screw attached to the mounting flange of the switch (the ground wire may or may not be connected). A four-way switch configuration is composed of two three way switches, one on each "end" of the switching circuit and a special four-way switch in-between the two three-way switches. This configuration is uncommon but can be found in larger homes or rooms with configurations that allow entry from more than two locations. In this situation, you can turn the light on and off from any of the switches. With a four-way switch, a total of three or more switches control a light or series of lights. If there are no screw terminals on your switch, there may be three push-in connectors on the back of the switch housing, one of which should be labeled "common." The labeling on the back of a switch may be difficult without cleaning it off and using a flashlight. Three-way switches typically have three screw terminals on the housing, one of which will be a different color or marked "common." There may also be a separate green ground screw attached to the mounting flange of the switch (the ground wire may or may not be connected). While it is difficult to know exactly how your home was wired when it was originally built, there are several things you can look for to see if your switch scenario is compatible with HS210. There are multiple wiring configurations for three-way switches and not all are compatible with HS210. Some three-way switches may not even be located in the same room, but they may still serve to control a light in a common space (a switch may be located in both a garage and kitchen if it controls a patio light accessible from both locations). This switch configuration is often found in hallways, stairways or rooms where you have multiple entry points. In this configuration, you can turn the light on and off from either location. With a three-way switch, two separate light switches control a light or series of lights. You can still upgrade this configuration with HS200 Smart Switch, but you will need to wire-nut the bundle of load wires together as HS200 only has one load lead. If no other light switches control these lights, you likely have a standard switch that is being used as a junction for multiple load wires. In situations where one switch controls multiple light fixtures (like in a bathroom vanity or multiple pendant lights, etc.), you may find multiple wires connected to the same screw terminal/push-in connectors on the switch. If there are more than two wires contented to the switch, it is likely a three-way switch, however, there are some instances where more than two wires will be connected to a standard switch. There may also be a ground wire connected. There must be 2 wires (usually black) connected to screw terminals or push connectors on the back of the switch housing. You can identify a single-pole wall switch when you remove it from the junction box. If your light can only be switched from a single location, it's most likely a standard/single-pole switch. This switch can be upgraded to a Smart Switch using the TP-Link HS200 Wi-Fi Smart Switch (so long as there are neutral wires in the junction box). This is the most common light switch found in a home. With a standard or single-pole wall switch, only one switch controls a light or series of lights. There are several types of light switches that you will encounter when upgrading a switch to a Smart Switch in your home. GROSS: Kevin Whitehead is the author of the book "Play The Way You Feel: The Essential Guide To Jazz Stories On Film." And he writes for Point of Departure and the Audio Beat. (SOUNDBITE OF AHMAD JAMAL'S "BACK TO THE FUTURE") Ahmed Jamal's career reminds us there's no one way to play jazz. Taking the long view, we can hear Jamal in the lineage of great Pittsburgh jazz pianists alongside Earl Hines, Mary Lou Williams, Billy Strayhorn, Erroll Garner, Sonny Clark and others. In later years, if anything, his music got funkier and more expansive, his piano playing more two-fisted, the loud parts more boisterous. WHITEHEAD: Ahmad Jamal didn't take it easy. (SOUNDBITE OF AHMAD JAMAL'S "NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND EYES") Finally, we could hear Jamal backing a horn player while sounding pretty much the way he does out front. But now, on rare occasions, a saxophonist might guest in concert. By choice, he only played with his own combos. The NEA declared him a jazz master in 1994, and he worked and recorded steadily. And in the 90s, the pianist's fortunes took a permanent upswing. WHITEHEAD: Miles Davis, in his 1989 autobiography, made much of Ahmad Jamal's positive influence. WHITEHEAD: In the 1980s when digital recording and compact discs came in, Ahmad Jamal, like other jazz greats, rerecorded and updated a few old favorites. (SOUNDBITE OF AHMAD JAMAL'S "THEME FROM MASH") For the first set, Jamal played his current single, the theme from "MASH," for 45 minutes. One of the first jazz concerts I ever saw, circa 1973, remains one of the oddest. WHITEHEAD: In the late 1960s, Ahmad Jamal's reputation again began to wane as he made albums with choirs, strings and electric piano. (SOUNDBITE OF AHMAD JAMAL'S "ALL OF YOU") The dramatic turnabouts and sudden big gestures, playful quotations from other tunes and a powerful sense of swing. But some recently unearthed mid-'60s recordings from Seattle confirm his old virtues were intact. But as a devout Muslim, he didn't sell alcohol, and the place soon folded. WHITEHEAD: With newfound success, Ahmad Jamal opened his own Chicago club. A 1958 live album recorded in Chicago's Pershing Hotel lounge yielded his hit version of the 1936 Latin tune "Poinciana." It was Jamal's bread-and-butter song ever after and a lifesaver for the Argo label and its parent, Chess Records. He swapped out Ray Crawford's guitar for drums in a more conventional lineup. Ahmad Jamal's next phase won him wider acclaim. WHITEHEAD: "Slaughter On 10th Avenue," 1955. (SOUNDBITE OF AHMAD JAMAL TRIO'S "SLAUGHTER ON 10TH AVENUE") He heard his trios as miniature orchestras. That stuff could make Ahmad Jamal's music sound a little fussy. Miles also picked up on the pianist's way of tweaking a tune's form with little interludes and extensions. Miles Davis testified to Jamal's influence on his own understatement and use of space and silence. Nowadays, we praise Jamal's economy and dramatic shifts in density and volume. Early on, some folks dismissed that trio for making fussy, glorified cocktail music. The pianist's reputation had its ups and downs over the years. KEVIN WHITEHEAD, BYLINE: Ahmad Jamal's first recording, "The Surrey With The Fringe On Top," Chicago, 1951. (SOUNDBITE OF AHMAD JAMAL TRIO'S "THE SURREY WITH THE FRINGE ON TOP") Here's our jazz critic, Kevin Whitehead, with a look back on Jamal's career. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, broke through with his small-group music in Chicago in the 1950s and recorded scores of records through 2016, a 65-year recording career. Pianist Ahmad Jamal died on April 16 at age 92. Number disks, which will correspond to die rolls (two 6-sided dice are used), are placed on each resource tile. Setup includes randomly placing large hexagonal tiles (each showing a resource or the desert) in a honeycomb shape and surrounding them with water tiles, some of which contain ports of exchange. Players collect these resources (cards)-wood, grain, brick, sheep, or stone-to build up their civilizations to get to 10 victory points and win the game. On each turn dice are rolled to determine what resources the island produces. In Catan Board Game, players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. Catan has grown to include many expansions and variations with players being settlers in Catan, building and developing their holdings while acquiring and trading resources. A little complicated, maybe, but worth it.The Settlers of Catan or Catan is perhaps the most famous board game of recent history designed by Klaus Teuber and first published in 1995. For example, Catan: Treasures, Dragons & Adventurers requires you to have the base game and both the Seafarers and Cities & Knights expansions. Note that a few expansions require stacking. There are many expansions, from those that bump up the player limit from four to six to others that add more islands, land masses and player pieces to extend and diversify the gameplay. ExpansionsĬatan is a fully self-contained experience – if you want it to be. Fan-made options are also available on any number of internet forums. Paid-for official scenarios are available too - for a small fee, they provide you with additional pieces and new rules, for example adding oil springs to the island. Some pre-built examples are provided in the original instruction booklet to give you a flavour of what they offer. Scenarios are twists on the basic gameplay and can be minor or significant. However, once you’ve mastered the game, you might want to add some spice to the experience. This is the basic Catan game which can be replayed time and time again without issue. When you open the Catan instruction manual for the first time, you are guided through the setup and rules. While some strategy games, like Risk, Scythe or Terraforming Mars, can take anywhere from two to five hours to complete, games of Catan can be wrapped up in 30 to 45 minutes, meaning you can fit a few games in an evening, or just have a quick session. Once you’re an experienced Catan player, games pass by at pace, twisting and turning as all involved attempt to see their best-laid plans through to the end. However, like all good board games, simplicity belies the potential for mastery and complexity. The rules of Catan are easy to pick up, meaning that, unlike other strategy board games, newcomers can start laying claim to territory quickly. If you think that sounds simple, that’s because it is. In exchange for establishing new communities and infrastructure, players are rewarded with points – typically, the first to 10 wins the game. Throughout the game, three to four players manage their resources to build an interconnected grip of roadways, settlements, ports and cities. Over 32 million Catan games have sold over its near-30-year existence, and this fervour shows no sign of dwindling.ĭesigned by Klaus Teuber and first published in 1995 as Settlers Of Catan, the board game follows a straightforward premise based on strategic gameplay. Echoing this in-game goal, the board game has spread its influence throughout the world, dominating store shelves and topping bestseller lists. In Catan, players race to settle a resource-rich island faster than their opponents to claim the win. Here, Empire takes you through the best versions of Catan available today, whether you’re a hardened Catan pioneer or just setting foot on its beachy shores for the first time. There are versions set in the Game Of Thrones universe, featuring unique mechanics and characters, and others that take the pastoral fantasy off the world and into the galaxy. These varied versions of Catan have anyone looking to purchase the game has some choices to make.Ĭatan has been reworked into a successful two-player variant and can extend to a six-player epic with expansion packs. Catan is one such game, winning awards and worldwide acclaim for its remarkable strategy gameplay, while also wooing more casual audiences with its accessibility and joyous combat-free competition.Īs with all the best board games, from Monopoly to Risk, the longstanding popularity of Catan means that it had several incarnations. In a world of distractions, it's always impressive to see a board game breakthrough and embed itself in the zeitgeist. To make this scenario even easier we can support the user by configuring and providing the macOS Microsoft Azure AD single sign-on (how to configure link) experience within the Apple Desktop session for cloud resources. On the other hand, if I’m logged on to the device with a local user and have to authenticate against my cloud resources with my IDP managed identity, my data is still protected very well. Password change of the local account will not change the account managed by the IDP and vice versa. This account can be the same as the centrally managed account, but again it has no real relationship. Meaning right now, you have to have a local account on the device for logon. macOS does not provide the native support of a cloud identity provider (IDP) like Azure AD during OS logon (I’m hoping Apple decides to add this in the future). Logon to the OS and logon to services like SaaS applications in the browser session. Next, I will differentiate between two scenarios here. I’m not going to consider a domain join this is not the future of identity management for me. First, I have to say, I want to look at options in a cloud-only approach. When we think of user logon it can mean different things. For me these 5 areas are the essential parts to look at, to accomplish all typical device management tasks.įollowing a small abstract for each of the areas to get a clearer picture what we can use with Microsoft Endpoint Manager and the cloud component Intune: And as last puzzle piece, we need a proper way of distributing software. Next, a way to handle additional tasks outside of the MDM protocol like executing scripts via an additional management agent to accomplish all the left-over tasks we couldn’t solve with MDM and configuration profiles. When we talk about management, we need a way to enroll the device into an MDM system, as MDM is the new golden standard for configuration management for all platforms. This user account is typically used for user logon and getting access to devices and resources. Let’s start with a short introduction what is necessary for macOS device management.Įverything starts with a user account within the enterprise. In the following paragraphs I describe my findings and my decisions why I chose the architecture like this.įirst of all, which components do we need in terms of management in general and which options do we have to fulfill the needs. Yes, I will come up with some tweaks here and there, but we will see an approach which works very well. The question is… How well can a macOS device be managed via Intune? Especially if you already have a management system like Intune in place which is capable of managing macOS. I also need to build expertise for these tools and can’t use already existing management tool knowledge, which is something I really like to avoid to a certain degree. As Microsoft 365 customers already have Intune, an additional second management system for macOS introduces additional licenses fees, different operational efforts, and of course maintenance. So, I looked at ways to manage a macOS similar to Windows with Microsoft Intune. This way we get synergy effects during day-by-day operations. The goal should be to have a common management strategy, using mostly the same tools and infrastructure components we are familiar with. It could be the marketing department, developers and often seen in the C-level departments. Most companies I engage with do have the majority of devices running Windows, but there is always a certain amount of percentage running macOS. Microsoft Intune is great when it comes to managing Windows devices and for sure it doesn’t need to hide when it comes to mobile phones like Android phones or Apple phones. I love this kind of music and I have done since I was given my first NWA tape when I was 10 years old," says Hyams. Hyams, who since last month has been the head writer on Bebo's online drama Kate Modern, says he is reconciled to the fact that DPD is not likely to make its creators a lot of money, but is glad that the second series has made it to air. Although it has a certain amount of humour, it covers some really dark issues and has dialogue from a particular part of society, but the issues that the cast face, like who comes first - family or friends - and staying on the right side of the law, these are relevant to all of us." "Dubplate Drama is clearly not as accessible as a teatime soap. "This is indicative of the confidence we have in the project," says Neil McCallum, commissioning editor of T4 and Music at Channel 4, who also commissioned series one. This series will benefit from a fixed time in the C4 schedule at 12.40pm on Thursdays with a slot on E4 at weekends as well (series one went out at a variety of different times, and at the weekend only). What Hyams, 27, has found, though, is that traditional TV makers, advertisers and viewers have been difficult to get on board in a way that allows him and his team to make the show they want, and the budget of about £500,000 for 12 half-hours reflects that - it is minuscule compared to a typical drama budget. A career in TV beckoned after he attended Youth Culture Television, a charity youth training project for young people interested in the media.Īll its makers want is for DPD to demonstrate a clear social conscience while being a watchable TV show for the rap generation. "It's about street culture and the DIY music business and how it relates to these kids' lives," says Hyams, who has been involved in the urban music scene since he was thrown out of school at 14. The ChildLine charity has been consulted in order to make the storylines feel authentic. The show even has guest appearances from real rap personalities such as MC Shystie. One of DPD's episodes revolves around the real pirate radio station Rinse FM, while another features ex-BBC TV presenter and outspoken conspiracy theorist David Icke. Viewers are asked to vote online or by text message to decide the endings. "It's really about the negative portrayal of young people from this demographic in the media, and how we demonise them when actually there is an awful lot to celebrate and a lot of talent out there," says Conniff, who is also the co-founder of Livity, a marketing agency that specialises in the youth market and includes a non-profit charity which has been praised by Gordon Brown for its work on social enterprise issues.ĭPD aims to be provocative and offers alternative endings to dilemmas faced by the characters involving issues such as bullying, drug use, depression, homelessness and teenage pregnancy. With the headlines full of stories about gangs and drugs-related shootings, it is time to address these issues and this audience in a way that will reach them. The make-up of the show might sound more than a little niche, but Hyams, Figgis and Conniff have been evangelistic about constructing a drama that reaches out across social barriers and also into reality.Īnd it is nothing if not timely. It is innovative because the characters use the language of urban rap, the actors are not professionals and the storyline denouements are decided by the audience. The second series, set against a soundtrack of street music called grime and dubstep - a hybrid of step, hip-hop and drum'n'bass - continues with the theme of stories from the streets, which involve young, predominantly black, kids living and breathing the London music scene, and their battles with the drug culture that surrounds them. The first series of Dubplate Drama went out in 2005 and despite its late-night slot, got peak ratings of 480,000. And, crucially, it is probably the only drama series on terrestrial television this autumn that directly addresses disenfranchised urban youth without patronising them. But for Hyams and his partners, producer Louis Figgis (son of film director Mike) and executive producer Sam Conniff, Dubplate Drama is the most exciting, the most socially aware and the most inspirational TV show that they can make.
